Hey there, digital wanderer! Have you ever caught yourself in the endless scroll—thumb moving on autopilot, eyes glazing over yet another dance reel, another ad, another meme that makes you chuckle for two seconds before you forget about it completely?

Yeah, we’ve all been there, trapped in the never-ending cycle of “refresh, repeat, regret.” It’s like being stuck on a hamster wheel, except instead of burning calories, you’re burning precious minutes of your life.

Now, what if I told you that there’s a better way? A way to take that scrolling habit and turn it into something that actually makes you smarter, more connected, and, dare I say, more fulfilled?

Enter the world of Learning Social Networks—a space where knowledge is king, ads are extinct, and every interaction is a step toward growth. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, it’s not. It’s real, and in my latest podcast, we’re diving headfirst into this revolutionary concept that’s about to change the way we use social media forever.

But before we get into the nitty-gritty, let’s take a little walk down memory lane and see how we got here in the first place.

The Evolution of Social Networks: From Cat Pics to Clickbait

Social media wasn’t always the behemoth it is today. Remember when Orkut was the cool kid on the block? Back in the day, social networks were all about friends—reconnecting with your school buddies, sharing your latest vacation pics, or sending silly “scraps” on someone’s wall. It was all fun and games, a digital playground where the only currency was likes and comments. Simple times, huh?

Then came the groups and hashtags—micro-communities where you could geek out about your favorite TV shows, join causes, or dive into niche interests. Suddenly, it wasn’t just about your friends anymore; it was about finding your tribe. And for a while, that was great.

But like all things on the internet, the scene kept evolving. The next big wave was all about content—reels, viral videos, and a flood of bite-sized information that catered to our dwindling attention spans. Content creators rose to stardom, and suddenly, everyone was either an influencer or aspiring to be one. The platforms evolved too, transforming from simple social tools to complex, content-driven ecosystems where visibility often felt like a game of chance.

And now? It’s all about the ads. Swipe down on your Facebook or Instagram feed, and you’re bombarded with ads every few posts, like digital billboards that you can’t avoid. Algorithms push sponsored content, your auntie’s cookie recipe gets drowned out by the latest celebrity skincare line, and slowly but surely, the social part of social media gets buried under a pile of monetized noise.

Enter the Learning Social Network: No Ads, Just Real Growth

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Imagine a social network with no ads. Yep, zero. A place where the only agenda is learning and growing. No more distracting clickbait, no more irrelevant ads about products you’ll never buy—just pure, unadulterated knowledge. That’s the essence of a Learning Social Network, and it’s the next big thing you didn’t know you needed.

Picture this: A community centered around one topic, where every post, every interaction is designed to help you learn something new or sharpen a skill. Whether it’s digital marketing, personal finance, or mastering the art of public speaking, these networks are focused, intentional, and—most importantly—effective.

But wait, there’s more! Imagine logging into a network where you don’t just passively consume content, but actively participate in courses, workshops, and discussions. You’re not just another number in a faceless crowd; you’re a valued member of a learning tribe. And instead of dopamine hits from likes and shares, you get real, tangible progress—gamification points, leaderboards, and even rewards that acknowledge your journey.

Why Traditional Social Media Feels Like Junk Food

Let’s be honest: traditional social media is like junk food for your brain. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s everywhere. But just like that late-night samosa binge, it leaves you feeling empty, unsatisfied, and sometimes a little guilty. You get caught in the cycle of consuming content that’s entertaining but not necessarily enriching. And before you know it, you’ve spent another hour scrolling with nothing to show for it.

Now, don’t get me wrong. A little entertainment isn’t a bad thing. But when your entire online experience revolves around mindless consumption, you’re not growing; you’re stagnating. And in a world that’s moving faster than ever, standing still is not an option.

The Genius of Learning Social Networks: A Sneak Peek

In my latest podcast, we break down the six key elements that make Learning Social Networks a game-changer. We’re talking about focus, collaboration, and a safe space where your growth is the only priority. Here’s a sneak peek of what we cover:

1. Focused on One Topic: Imagine a network dedicated solely to your passion—whether it’s entrepreneurship, self-improvement, or anything else. No distractions, just depth.

2. Learning Through Courses & Workshops: Forget static posts and endless feeds. This is about structured learning with real outcomes.

3. No Ads, No Distractions: Finally, a place where your attention isn’t for sale. Just pure, undiluted content that serves your goals.

4. Gamification Points & Leaderboards: Progress isn’t just a buzzword here. Track your growth, earn points, and see how you stack up against your peers.

5. Collaboration at Its Core: Meet like-minded individuals, exchange ideas, and build partnerships that matter.

6. A Safe Space for Real Growth: With clear values and guidelines, it’s a sanctuary from the noise and chaos of traditional social media.

Of late I am very observant of people around when travelling or in the marketplace or mall- I find more than 80% of the people are busy with their Mobiles- scrolling. I can’t believe they are learning, they are just killing their time. and behave like robots.
It is too dangerous a trend and creating morons, I believe. It is time for coaches to change the trend by first evolving ourselves to become people Magnet.

Learning social networks is the future of the learning in the Digital Era. There are clusters of like minded individuals who have common goals to achieve in life, career/business.

    • Sridhar Pai Tonse

While social media -both tech and purpose, shape and format, medium and payload has evolved dramatically in the past decade, it is now at a point when users can decide what and how they want to use it.
But the addictive nature of this beast has destroyed many lives and careers and sucked up a noticeable % of global GDP -something the platform creators will rarely agree to.
In any case, if you want to get the most out of this social media world -your option is to convert this into a learning social network – where you focus on the key points or lessons you want to take away – techniques, working methods, inspiration, relaxation or what ever you need in a focused time bound manner. That is the way to get ahead – plan your slots – focus on the exact purpose you are there, make notes, create progressive learning and become a master at what you want to do. But even more important become a member of a learning community and do not just consume – pls also practice what you learn, do and teach. That is the best way to learn – teaching increases retention to 90% compared to learning alone which is only 5%.

Trust me – this is true.

      • Dr Dhara Sheth

True. The addiction has ruined many. And such learning communities can help them.

    • Aan Oberoi

we should build smarter learning social networks rather than sticking to old social networks like Facebook which are full of ads. Social networks should make visitors learn things rather than just scroll from one post to another without purpose.

    • SHANTANU KUMAR SAHOO

The stages and steps you cited are recalled my internal feelings.

    • Nisha C Patel

After digital transformation now is the time for digital learning. With focused social networks you only network with people but grow learning from the collective experience of the network, and that is empowering as learning power is in your hands, in your network!

This writeup offers a compelling vision of how to shift from mindless social media consumption to a more productive and growth-oriented approach by creating a Learning Social Network. Here are some insights and actions based on the key points:

      Insights:

Mindless Consumption vs. Intentional Growth: Traditional social media often traps users in a cycle of passive content consumption. It’s entertaining but leaves you feeling unfulfilled. In contrast, Learning Social Networks aim to provide meaningful engagement by focusing on education and growth.

The Role of Ads in Distracting from Value: Ads and clickbait clutter traditional platforms, diluting genuine content. Learning Social Networks emphasize ad-free experiences, removing distractions to enhance focused learning.

The Power of Community Learning: Learning Social Networks are designed to foster collaboration and create an engaged community where every interaction is aimed at increasing knowledge or skills.

Gamification and Reward Systems: By incorporating leaderboards and progress tracking, these networks make learning engaging and rewarding, motivating users to achieve tangible results.

A Safe and Supportive Space: Unlike traditional social media, Learning Social Networks create an environment focused on personal development, free from the negativity or pressure often seen on conventional platforms.

      Actions:

Evaluate Your Current Social Media Use: Track how much time you spend on platforms like Instagram or Facebook and the quality of the content you engage with. Is it helping you grow, or is it just entertainment?

Explore Learning-Focused Communities: Join networks or platforms dedicated to specific areas of interest (e.g., LinkedIn groups for professional development or Coursera for structured learning). This way, you can start turning your scrolling habit into intentional, focused learning.

Start Curating Your Feed: On platforms where you can’t avoid ads, make an effort to follow educational pages, influencers who share valuable insights, or communities that offer content aligned with your personal growth goals.

Engage Actively in Learning: Instead of just passively consuming content, participate in webinars, workshops, or courses that provide structured learning. Apply what you learn in real-life scenarios to reinforce the knowledge.

Apply Gamification in Your Growth: Use personal development tools to track your progress. Set goals, reward yourself for milestones, and stay motivated through visible improvements.

This approach can help you shift from being a passive consumer to an active learner, using social media as a tool for growth rather than a distraction.

    • Dr Dhara Sheth

In today’s time, the skills we need to navigate work and life are not taught in school or college. And what we learned from previous generations is really not helpful in face of AI revolution.
If we want to learn live, the only option we have is to learn it from coaches, which we can find from ads.

Currently, learning systems are like isolated islands in the sea of entertaining reels and shorts.

But I believe, the future is platform where you learn life skills in-depth, something like Coursera, but where you have active learning forums. Where coaches can solve issues that arise after implementation, like you do in inner circle calls every week (and most ILH community coaches too).

I know of a finance coach who comes live every share market day for few minutes, so that he can keep his students updated abt reasons behind every crash and rise, and not let them panic. Such coaches are trained in ILH system.

I hope that weekly inner circle calls to connect with students becomes the next fad for coaches. It makes it easy to apply what we learn and actually get value from the knowledge.

    • CHETANYA SIKARWAR

      **Summary:**

Caught in the endless loop of mindless scrolling, we unknowingly squander our most precious resource—time. The illusion of engagement on traditional social media platforms, laced with superficial content and intrusive ads, traps us in a cycle of distraction. What once began as a platform for authentic connection has morphed into a monetized, attention-hungry ecosystem, reducing meaningful interactions to mere transactions.

Yet, there exists a revolutionary alternative—a Learning Social Network, where depth replaces distraction and personal growth takes center stage. Imagine an ad-free sanctuary where every interaction serves your intellectual curiosity, honing skills and expanding knowledge. These networks are designed to foster focused learning, offering courses, workshops, and community-driven growth—an environment where collaboration, not competition, is the currency.

This new model doesn’t merely feed your brain empty calories like traditional platforms do; it cultivates meaningful progress. You engage in structured learning, participate in gamified growth metrics, and measure your development through tangible rewards. Here, the dopamine hit comes not from fleeting likes but from tracking your own upward trajectory—becoming more skilled, knowledgeable, and purpose-driven.

In essence, while traditional social media dilutes your attention with noise and triviality, Learning Social Networks offer clarity, purpose, and empowerment. It’s time to break free from the hamster wheel of digital distractions and align your online interactions with personal growth, creating lasting change in your life. This shift isn’t just revolutionary; it’s necessary.

Here come the ads, throwing off their vibe. What they really need is some focus. And the perfect fix? A distraction free, ad free zone, where the brain can stay sharp and not get yanked around by shiny things.

    • Shabeena

Absolutely, social media users have come a ling way and we have witnessed the trajectory from Orkut days to the IG reels. Undoubtedly, social media has led to distractions and people are looking for a platform which is nicbe based and they get to meet people which think alike. Webinars and such online meet ups and community clusters are a way forward in this regard. This way we can also collaborate and move forward together.

As you said, I need to learn a lot more about social media and keep up with the latest trends. To be successful, I should focus on one topic at a time instead of switching to something else. To learn it, take a course or go to a live course, work with others, plan good gamification to boost mood for myself and the participants, and most importantly, set core values.

Social network is a barrage of never ending ,mindless distractions and without even realising removes so much energy from us. The comparison of Traditional social media to junk food is so apt, where you never feel content after having it , a short lived pleasure moving into a feeling of guilt later . I would definitely like to enter into this new world of social networking that gives me a safe space (without being judged)to learn ,collaborate and grow with a community of people aspiring to share and grow together. I am all set to dive into this platform and move to the next level of actual fulfilment.

greatlearning and awareness.i do remember the concept of Facebook was to bring friends togather. but today there is a habit to screen addiction, affect ing communication. from a single focus, social media changed to topic focic and groups. but yet when it came to relationship it created a void. lack of vocal communications.hence the need for society communities to bridge the gap and awareness. how social media can be used for a better purpose and to create a better place.

If social media is not used in the manner it is intended, then there are issues to be faced from all the social media platforms. The only place where I found the real optimization of social media is “ILH”, as Sidz has successfully converted this into a small university for coaching…!!! Which is really laudable efforts from Sidz who is thriving to get the best out of it for all his students or success seekers.!

This concept of a Learning Social Network sounds incredibly refreshing! It’s so true that traditional social media often leaves us feeling unsatisfied and unproductive. The idea of having a focused community dedicated to personal and professional growth without the noise of ads is exactly what many of us need. I love the emphasis on structured learning through courses and workshops, as well as the gamification aspects—those could really motivate participation and enhance the learning experience.

      Key Takeaways:
      > The existing Social networks are no longer fostering interactions and has been littered with so much Ads and distractions.
      > You would need a Learning Social Network to grow your community, enable them to learn continuously and foster better interactions.

      Learning Social Network Building Blocks:
      * Focus: Ensure that the network is aligned with the vision
      * Learning: Ensure that the the blog/podcasts have nuggets of wisdom and helps the community to learn.
      * No Ads: Keep the network private to ensure that there are no Ads to distract your audience. The only way for the content creator to monetize is through high value content.
      * Gamification: To ensure that the action taken (Likes, Comments, Feedback on Comments) on the network is rewarded.
      * Collaboration: The bridges are built using the content as like minded community members starts meaningful interaction and grow together.
      * Safe Space: The core values and code of honor ensures that community members are able to connect, learn and support each other without fear of retribution.

Thank you, Sidz, for great insights and one of the key pillars for fostering a Community of learners through Private Learning Social Networks. ILH Social and ILH Learning platforms are great examples of how this is done!

    • Bharathi Bhaskaran

When I first started with Orkut in 2005, i guess I had only one friend and honestly didn’t know what to do with the profile. I added a few pictures of my son and then eventually closed it when they shut down the platform. I didn’t really dive into social media until I opened Facebook in 2008. I’ve never been much of a social media buff, I also lamely started in 2016 to share my passion …well,”I wanted to share a bit about my own journey with social media and how much ILH has influenced it.
Infact after joining ILH, I’ve been actively using it more, and I’ve learned so much from the community. Thanks to ILH, people actually think I’m smarter! Huge thanks to you, Sidz.

Regarding scrolling i respect all content creators…and I am so happy Internet has changed so many people’s lives especially downtrodden and underprivileged the poor people. well about me My situation is a bit different though. My son and I live together, only teo of us..and because of financial constraints, I don’t really socialize. I’ve had to cut ties with friends because stepping out always involves spending money, and I’m currently focused on becoming financially stable and independent. So, social media has become a kind of lifeline for me. Watching people who put so much effort into consistently creating content not only inspires me but also gives me the kind of break that others get from spending time with friends and family. Whether it’s scrolling through social media, keeping up with politics, or watching Netflix, it’s my way of taking a breather. I dont overdo it just the right amount.

One thing I’ve realized is that indulging in creative work often benefits from taking a step back. Sometimes, doing the mundane things allows my brain to recharge, and even when I need to solve a complex problem, I find that if I think deeply about it, and then just switch to a routine task, my brain eventually comes up with answers. That space to let ideas incubate has been a game-changer for me always forever since I am born or even before i was born …

Social networks have evolved over the years.
From mindless scrolling to community based learning social networks
It all started with we finding our school friends in Orkut and started wishing each other on birthday’s and anniversaries.
Then we saw FB and twitter , micro groups started growing.
      Then LinkedIn groups started
Then hashtags and micro contents started to pick up
Post covid, micro contents like reels boomed
      4th phase is about Ads
Every 2 sec there is an ad in FB and Instagram now
Here is the difference ILH is making as a learning social network.
Positive side of Learning Social Network
      1. No ads, no distraction it won’t take you away from the objective of the goal why you are in the community.
