Today, it’s all about influence. Your true value in the world is represented by how many people you can influence.

Why do we use the internet? To consumer information or entertain ourselves. Think about the last time you saw an IGTV video or searched a product review on Google. Why do we do that? Because we want to know more.

Content is everywhere, but some people produce high-quality content that separates them from the pack. They consume but also produce content which make them authority in their niche.

As they produce more and more content, they create influence. Their words, posts, and videos impact the decisions of the people. But why should one invest energy in producing high-quality content and grow influence out of it? Here is the answer.

Being an influencer can make you famous.

Online influencers have a consistent audience that follows them. They have at least thousands of followers who always stay updated on why what and how their influencers are doing in their routine. Peter McKinnon grew his YouTube followers to 1 million within one year.

It can give a lot of money.

Once you become an influencer, you can earn handsome amount without even putting a lot of effort. Surely, you will have to work hardest to become an influencer, and also maintain the quality of your posts to grab more profits, but once you achieve a certain level of recognition, it can generate recurring income source for you.

A social media influencer with 100,000 followers can charge up to £2,000, reports Financial Times.

You can build a community.

Not every time you can post an attractive picture of yourself in Instagram and generate sales through your post. As an influencer, you develop a renowned voice of yourself that impacts people’s lives.

You can help the people in need by encouraging your audience for help or also become a mentor for a few people to help them improve their lives.

Here is a step by step guide on how to become an influencer.

1. Find Your Niche

You need to find your niche for which you can share your thoughts and experience through social media posts, blog, emails, etc.

Pick something you love. It could be baking cookies, reading romantic novels, biking, watching horror movies — anything that you know a little bit more compared to most of the people can be your niche to become an influencer.

If you know a couple of things and confused among them, you can also make your final decision based on the most profitable choice.

Yes, you can be passionate about more than two things, but there are few niches which are already crowded with the influencers who are publishing excellent content online.

If you still wish to go for that niche, you may have to put a lot of effort and wait for months or years to gain the recognition. Instead, if you have a couple of things to choose from, decide which niche has fewer influencers or can give you immediate attention or more returns in the near future.

Once you have achieved your goals in one niche, you can always expand your work by including other niches in the side hustle. But choosing a primary niche is crucial to become an influencer and then dominate the market.

2. Pick Relevant Social Media Channels

After picking your niche, you get to decide the channels where you can showcase your expertise to the world. You need to tell people that you are good at certain things and you know your stuff better than most of the people.

Thanks to the evolution of the internet and digital landscape, there are established social media channels for different purposes.

Among the pack, you need to choose which channel would be most suitable for your business purpose because every channel has a unique purpose. So, promoting your work on irrelevant channels might not give you positive results in the end.

For example, you are great at stand-up comedy and can leave people in splits if you get a mic and a stage. Now, for such a niche, best platform for you to be on is YouTube because it is the number one video streaming platform where you can share your videos and show your talent.

You can also try Instagram and Facebook for your niche. Now, you cannot upload funny videos on LinkedIn because it is not a relevant platform. LinkedIn has a different user base altogether which is interested in different stuff compared to what you are offering.

Below is the list of major social media channels you can choose for your niche.

There are different forms of content you can publish and build an audience for yourself. You can post blogs, pictures, videos, webinars, tutorials, extensive course and what not.

You need to decide what resources you have at your place that you can use to create content for yourself. Say, you know writing but don’t have a good camera or editing skills, then you can write copies and captions for your post or develop a blog in your niche.

But for editing the social media posts, you will have to learn editing or shooting otherwise you could also outsource it too.

3. Choose the Right Topics

Create a content framework on which you can sustain, plan and create topics that would give you desired consumer engagement. Align your topics and content ideas according to the ideas which are already trending in your niche.

To find what is working online, you can use Google Trends and BuzzSumo where to search by keywords. BuzzSumo will give you a list of articles that have generated the highest number of social media shares and are viral on the internet.

You can also skim the list and check out the titles of the posts to get the idea of what people are sharing.

If you wish, you can also read the posts to find out more about it. Google Trends can also help you see the average search that happens from a particular geographical location. You can check out viral videos on YouTube and repurpose a similar topic and content on your channels.
